Wew, time gets away!

Time sure gets away from me. It has been several days since my last blog. There have been many things in my head to blog about, but they haven't made it to the fingers; thus, being pounded into the keyboard and into the ole blog. So, for a quick recap:

1. Stormy weather = get to stay at my parents' house because I'm a scaredy cat.
2. More stormy weather = see explanation above
3. Rain, Rain, and more Rain
4. Mother's Day service at church
5. Nixa, MO City Wide yard sales = not too big on yard sale'n but that was fun. Who ever knew you sometimes had to walk single file at a yard sale? There were so many people at some of these places that that's what had to be done. But, it was a fun day and I found some goodies. Oh, and the bad part of the day (other than leaving at 5:30 am) was that my sister hit a deer in her new-to-her van on the way up. OOOO, not a good start; but the damage wasn't all that bad. Every vehicle she has ever owned gets cristened within the first few months of my sister's ownership by way of a deer. And, I always seem to be with her and the deer hit is ALWAYS on my side. That's something I said to try and livein up the morning..."Nay, why don't you try hitting them on your side instead of mine!" She didn't think it was funny.
6. Lightning, from all our stormy weather, hit somewhere close to our farm and ran through every fence on one side of our place. Scary, but quite awesome. There is a burnt place on every gate connected to barb wire on part of the place; that's about 10 gates or so and fencing going around about 100 acres or so. One gate even has a hole in it and melted the chain to the gate. Cool thing to see. I hope to take a picture sometime and post it.
7. Hay cutting time. There is a 25 acre field in front of my house that has been cut; smells so good. And, another 25 acre field behind my house that has been cut. They should get bailed tomorrow.

Anyway, beautiful weather. Would love to be outside. Happy Sunshine!!!

Until next time . . .

A lunch date

Well not really a date, but a different lunch buddy. You see, with my sister and I carpooling usually if we go out to lunch we are together because, well, we are in the same car. Anyway, I was thrilled to be in the company of my wonderful friend Nicole. We had a good lunch and even better time talking and catching up. Sadly, our mutual wonderful friend Sara couldn't join us on this round, but she will the next time. It just wasn't the same without her; we missed your company Sara!!!

We all get so busy with life and work that our friends, who we need the most in this world; next to God and family of course. But, when we do slow down and give ourselves time to be with friends it is such a great feeling and comforting thought to know they are always there.

Happy Friday!

Until next time . . .

A usual occurance these days

*singing* It's raining...its pouring...the old man is snoring...bumped his head on a water bed...and he won't wake up till the morning!!!

My dad and I used to sing that song all the time when I was little; along with "Oh My Darling Clementine". The 'it's raining it's pouring' song popped into my head today because what do you know? It's raining, again. Not that I'm complaining about the rain and weather.

Anyway, just felt like sharing this song with you today. Nothing much going on other that it being Friday; oh happy day! Hope all my fellow blogger buddies have a fantastic weekend.

Until next time . . .

Life on the farm

he he he...this is a two post day!

All I really have to say is that there is rarely ever a dull moment when living on a farm.(this is the patch behind the house taken last winter)

Let me set the scene: my house is at the edge of a 5 acre patch; we call it the barn lot because the barns are in the patch. Around my house we have hay fields and woods. With the woods come coyotes. Right now we have our springer cows (cows fixing to have babies) in the patch behind my house so they are close by to keep an eye on them. *side note* it is my job to step out my back door of a morning, count them, and make sure they are all there and to see if there are any new babies. Right now there is only one baby and 8 more left to calve.

Ok, so the scene is set. Well, about 10 pm last night I could hear coyotes really close but though nothing of it because I can always hear them; sometimes closer than others. A few moments later I heard this awful racket and the cows were balling hysterically. They just kept on and kept on. *side note* cows do respond to weather changes and changes to their habitat-they buck, snort, butt other cows, etc,-act a bit crazy. So, I'm hearing these cows and I knew if just wasn't right. I stepped out the door and they were running the fence line around my house; all the while going nuts. Then out of the shadows I see this tiny little black dot ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE FENCE. That little baby had some how made it's way to the other side; aka the side it's mama wasn't on! *side note* mama cows are very protective when they have new babies and sometimes more protective than others; aka they will get after you!-they aren't mean, they just protect that baby. Anyhow, so I called my dad and told him that the baby was out and the cows were going crazy. Shortly after 10 pm then my dad was coming up the road on the four wheeler and we were off to get that baby back where it belongs. We finally got the calf back in the patch (it squeezed it's way through the fence). However, we noticed that it's mama and the other cow about to have a calf were still going nuts; running and snorting around. We were like what the heck. The other cow was trying to take the mamas baby for her own. In all my years of living on the farm I have never seen this, but dad said it does sometimes happen. So, we tried to get those two cows and the calf in the corral; but we were unsuccessful. By about 11 pm the cows were settled down and the baby was back to it's mama and we left them alone.

What we think happened is that the coyotes were close or even in the patch with the cattle and it spooked/stirred them up. Plus, the one cow that is about to have a baby is very sensitive right now and becoming protective (it's kinda like women and our hormones; we are very sensitive).

Anyhow, this all just goes to show that there's never a dull moment on the farm!

Thanks for reading!

Until next time . . .

Ah! The Sun!

After several gloomy, gray days it is wonderful to see the beautiful sunshine again. Granted, we can always use the rain and as a farmer we welcome it; especially when it is slow steady rains like we have been receiving. It's great for the pasture and hay fields! Now, come July and August we'll be wishing it were raining. Funny, we are never satisfied. Anyway, it is a beautiful day and so great to see the sun. It is amazing how everyone perks up after several gray and gloomy days.

And, the best thing is that the headache I had for 4 days seems to be gone. I don't think it is lurking around to come back; hopefully not. That was dreadful. It's weird though, after I've had a bad headache or had it for a couple of days my head usually hurts for a few days simply from hurting; make sense. I have to say I don't think I have ever had one for 4 days though...silly pollen.

Well, I better get back to it.

Until next time . . .

Day 3

Not much to blog about today other than it is day 3 with this terrible headache. It has kind of gone away for the moment, but I can tell it is still lurking around for its attack. Just when I start to feel better it knocks in a way of producing great pressure on my temple and says to me, 'pound pound pound I am still here!' (ain't that a pathetic picture?!) Well, it doesn't really speak to me, you would think I was crazy if I told you a headache 'spoke' to me...lol...Anyhow, it just has a way of letting me know its still around and that I still need not push it.

Well, you can see how exciting my day has been since I'm giving my headache a blog space. No, it really has been a productive day at work despite not feeling well. That's all for now.

Until next time . . .
