Merry Christmas

Well hello all...it has been such a long time since my last post. So sorry for that. It's a busy time of year; being one of Santa's lovely elves and all. hehehe No really, have been super busy with work and church to do's that I've neglected my blog. Well, hopefully I can get back in the swing of things for the new year...and the new decade! I can't believe 2010 is knocking on our doorstep and a new decade is on the horizon. Many exciting things planned and going on with the new year. My biggest plan/goal/to-do is to pledge to myself, my family and my friends that I am working to lose 100 lbs in 2010....!! Yeah, go me!! But, I'm getting ahead of myself because this is supposed to be a Christmas post, not a New Year post...

Anyway.......I want to wish all you blogger buddies a very Merry Christmas. I pray that you remember the 'real' meaning of the season and not get wrapped up in all those gifts. hehe..'wrapped up' in gifts! LOL..I'm probably the only one who thought that was funny.

Merry Christmas all!

Until next time . . .

Introducing Celeste

No, I'm not talking about a person or animal....referring to my new ride. People have been after to me to post pictures, so here she is. I know it's just wheels and a payment, but I'm tickled. You know what vehicles and purses have in common? They get bigger as time goes on. So I guess that means when I get older at some point my vehicles will get smaller and smaller because there's a point in a woman's life that her purses start getting smaller. Finally, they carry no purse so I guess that's the time I'll have to surrender my license because I'll be too blind to see. Bad joke I know! My last vehicle, my beloved Pontiac G6, was my first 4-door. Now, my 2010 Chevy Equinox is a crossover SUV (with exceptional gas mileage).

At the time I started writing this post my rig didn't have a name. But with the wonderful help of my cube neighbor & friend (Becky) I think she has a name. You see, I love the starts, planets, meteor showers; things like that. Since my rig is an Equinox (fall, spring, autumn, winter equinox) I wanted to name her something to do with that, but was coming up short. Becky did what I didn't think of...she googled 'equinox' and found the meaning:

equinoctial point, equinox

(astronomy) either of the two celestial points at which the celestial equator intersects the ecliptic

Love the name that comes from the definition and it is so fitting for my love of astronomy. So, without further a due, meet Celeste the Bombshell...aka Celeste. She's a hottie like the sun-this was Becky's line. Thanks Becky for the name help and the fun!!

Introducing Maude

Hey folks!! I have exciting and wonderful news...for my sister! As many of you know, if you've read my past blog posts, my sister-Renee had a bad day on 10/7/09 and totaled her van (Goldie).

Well, the Lord works fast!!! Aside from the fact that our father LOVES to wheel and deal when it comes to buying a car (yes, he's a jewer and excellent at it), God sent her to the right place at the right time. Many calls and 2 trips to Melbourne, AR later, there is a new set of wheels residing in Dora. Meet Maude. "Maude?" you may ask. Why Maude? From Goldie to Maude; poor thing! You may even ask, "Why name your vehicle?" It's just something that me and my family have always done. We even name some of our cattle. Maude gets her name because she is muddy in color and it just fit. Also, Renee has graduated from having a Momma Wagon (Goldie) to having a Momma Express (Maude). You see Maude is a Chrysler Town and Country EX (this is where I get Express) Sport.

Anyway.....da da da...introducing Maude!! Please pray that Maude will be a great vehicle for my sister and last her a good long time.

She looks a lot like Goldie, but is a slightly different color and different trim line. She is a Chrysler Town and Country EX Sport. So dubbed Maude the Momma Express!

Cozy, comfy leather interior!

Here's another gander at her. Different from Goldie, both of Maude's side doors are automatic.

Until next time . . .

Diagnosis of Goldie

Well, as expected, the diagnosis of Goldie (my sister's momma wagon) is not good. Goldie will never see her home in Dora again. She is now making residence as a junk yard beauty. So very sad. Goldie was an awesome momma wagon for my sister. I absolutely loved going for a drive with Goldie; every other day to be exact. She will forever be remember as my sister's first ever momma wagon. Here's a few more shots of Goldie:
Goldie's good side. Ain't she a beaut?!

Goldie's not so good side.

Now the hunt is on for a new momma wagon for my sis. She got lucky finding Goldie after much prayer. I'm calling on all my blogger buddies to be in prayer that Renee will find something affordable, dependable, low mileage, etc. We drive many miles every day to work so these qualities are a must. We trust that God's plan is at work and that He has something waiting for her around the corner.

Thanks friends for all your prayers.

Until next time . . .
The momma wagon motto!

10/07/09...Not a good day

What started out as an already crazy day only got worse, but still thankful.

Let me back up a second. Tuesday my sister got a call that Jasmine (the youngest) was sick and the school thought it was swine (H1N1)...report=it's not! So a little after 10 am Tuesday my sister and I were leaving work to go get Jasmine at school. Then, Jasmine needed to be taken to Gainesville to the clinic to get medicine. So, crazy day.

Ok, so Wednesday is rolling around and Renee, my sister, planned to go to work early (like 7:30 am) so she could do some work and leave once that was finished in the morning. I was to stay with Jasmine while Renee was away. Fine and dandy. Renee called a little after 9 am Wednesday saying she was finished at work and heading to Wal-Mart to get Tylenol and a thermometer and then she'd be home. No problem. I was going to come in to work as soon as she got back. About 45 minutes later, I think because everything went crazy from there, I get a phone call and thought it was Renee but really couldn't tell because she was so upset. I remember her saying "I need some help! You're going to have to come help me!" I said, "Who is this? Is this Renee?" She told me yes and that she had been in a wreck. Oh my goodness!!!! She told me she may be able to drive her van home but didn't know yet because she hadn't made it out of the vehicle. Then a man's voice came up to the vehicle and I could hear him say no, that it was no driveable. So off to Mountain Home I go, with sick child in tow. Needless to say I didn't go get my sister then turn around and go back to work.

What a day. Renee doing the good thing by going in extra early to work so she could come home and care for her sick child. She is the most giving person I know and has the worst luck. Sometimes I think it followers her to get her down.

Here's what happened: She was making a left turn and a beverage truck stopped in the outside lane to let her out because the truck needed to turn into where she was pulling out from. The beverage truck motioned her out. Note: she knows and would never pull out into a blind lane because someone motions her out. Anyhow, the truck motioned so he could pull into the road where she was so she proceeded to pull out ever so slowly, peaking around the beverage truck. Out of know where a truck came into the inside lane and smack!!!

Nay's once pretty momma wagon that I dubbed Goldie isn't feeling to well. It is unknown at this time if she is going to be repairable. Sad....sad!

Well, you know who got the ticket and charged with the 'at fault'. You got it, Renee did. Funny, the beverage truck skedattled out of there and was never to be seen again; even thougth they were the direct cause of the accident. I'm not just saying this and taking sides because it's my sister either. The beverage truck was the cause of the accident but Renee got the blame.

We are praying and have faith that everything will work out. We are thankful that no party was hurt, just a little banged up and sore. Metal is replaceable but skin isn't.

A Two Post Monday

This is one of those rare occasions when I make my post day a 2-post day. But, I feel I need to mention this.

I truly believe and have faith in the power of prayer. I believe that when God's children are praying for the same thing that great things happen. So with that being said...

This is Felecia with our dog and her pal Tucker in early 2008. This is one of the last times I really saw her truly smile and have fun. I treasure all our memories.

I want to bring a special prayer request to you. Please be in prayer for Felecia and her family. This little girl has gone through and seen many things in her young life. Those things are now being reflected in her. I can't and won't go into any detail other than she needs A LOT of prayer. Please pray that God will protect her as she deals with choices she makes. Please pray that the eyes of her care givers are opened. She needs guidance, direction, love, and discipline. Please pray.

I know God will bring her out of this and make her a stronger person.

Thank you for your friendship and prayers being lifted up for this sweet little girl who means so much to me and my family.

Until next time . . .

Busy Weekend, but good times

Happy Monday everyone!! It seems as if I was just sitting in front of this computer. I woke up this morning saying, "One more day, just one more day." But, gotta get up and at em and go to work. So, here I am. I am so thankful to have a job...thank you Jesus.

Well, this was a super busy, fast, yet fun weekend. Saturday I actually managed to get to all three planned destinations. First, at Willow Springs, MO for their Oz Fest. My mom and I along with Jill Busby (she works with mom) sang gospel/contemporary Christian music at 9:30 am. It was absolutely freezing, but so much fun. We took Jasmine and dad came up as well. I love those community festivals like that. There were so many people there too. It was great. After Willow, dad, myself, and Jasmine headed to Mountain Grove, MO while mom stayed and visited with people she grew up with. My NEW washer and dryer was waiting for me at Sears. When I set out on the look for a new set; by the way-this is my first ever in my life new set of washer and dryer...so excited!!!-anyway, I wasn't looking for what I got. I got and excellent buy on a set of Wirlpool Duet (stackable) front loader washer and dryer. They're so pretty!!! And, I'm loving the fact that now I can have ceiling to floor shelving on the side where the old dryer used to set. After getting home around 2 pm Jasmine and I grabbed a bit to eat and then back to town we went. Only this time we went to West Plains, MO. The teens were sacking groceries at Country Mart as a fundraiser. There were more kids there than there were seats in the church van to come home. So, I had to go to town to pick part of them up.

My aunt and uncle didn't think I'd make it to all three locations in time, but I did. Then, here comes the fun part....get the old washer and dryer out and get the new in. Let's just say my house is still a bit of a wreck; complete with a dryer sitting in my kitchen. Installing these is a project for me and my dad. Hoping to get them in by tomorrow. I have now decided to put a coat of paint in the laundry area while there's nothing in there. But that's an extra step I don't mind. Will have pictures once their fully operational.

Yesterday was Jasmine's birthday party. It was fun and I think she had a good time with her family. Dad and I had to cut the party short because rain was coming in and we had round bales to get off the field. So, off down the road he went in the truck and trailer and I in the tractor. I was driving down the road remembering being a little kid thinking, "I will never be able to drive the tractor long distances on the highway like my daddy." He has taught me so much! Love my dad!!!

Well, I better get back to this fabulous, beautiful day. Have a wonderful week!!!

Until next time . . .

Fellow Christians-ACT NOW

Good day all. I am choosing to post a different type of post today. It regards a subject that so many seem to dodge, but I believe dodging the subject partly what has gotten us (our country) in the shape it's in. That subject would be religion. Folks, regardless of what we think or believe about Christianity, religion, or God...HE is coming back for His people! He may not come back in our lifetime, but He will come back. We don't know the year, month, week, day, hour, or second of His return so the time is now to get things right with Him and follow Him. I don't know about you, but I want to be on His team and no one else's. I may be ridiculed along the way, but I don't care. I fear the Lord to know that He will do what He says He will do. Many people in life fill us with hopes and empty promises; even our family and loved ones. I'm here to tell you that God is the only one in the world who will never break a promise and tell us something that won't happen. This notion of a 'One World' economy and system that our lawmakers and President are trying for...straight from scripture in Revelation regarding the End Times and end of the world. Not trying to scare, but if you don't believe me read the Book of Revelation for yourselves. Now there have been regulations applied to the can and can not for the decorations being made for the 2009 White House CHRISTMAS tree. See link for article: http://alliancedefensefund.org/news/story.aspx?cid=5079. Kids aren't allowed to depict anything regarding religion or government in the ornament. Without religion there would be no sence of Christmas. So let's call it a Winter Holiday ornament. I DON'T THINK SO!!! The day I shun God and Jesus Christ is the day my life ends. I'd rather go to jail for the day than deny God.

Friends, you might be saying, "What can I do, I'm in Missouri or Arkansas or California?" What we can do first and foremost is get on our knees and talk to the Father. If you don't know Him, meet Him. The promise I will make that will never be empty is that you will never regret knowing God and living for Him. Knowing/Believing/Following Him is the best descision anyone will ever make. Believers, what we can do is tell everyone about the love and sacrifices of Jesus Christ. We can guide others to knowing Him. We can get off the fence and not be afraid of speaking His name and spreading His teachings. WE CAN and need to TAKE A STAND for this country so that all our freedoms for beliefs don't continue to go down the drain. So ask yourself, "Do I know God today? Do I need to get things right with Him? Am I hungry for the the only filling and satisfying thing in this world? Am I in need of a revival in my soul?"

Have you prayed today? Have you talked to the Father today? Even though you might be going through hard times, aren't you glad you can have God to get you through? The time is now to know and follow the Lord for we don't know if we'll get tomorrow. We need to pray harder now than ever before for the world in which we live, not just our country; although our country leaders need MUCH prayer! We need to pray like there's no tomorrow!

Until next time . . .

Now there's 3

Well, it is official...my sister is now a single mother to three girls. She has been legal guardian to all three girls (sisters) since early 2007 and the two oldest girls have lived with her since December 06. But now all three sisters are back under the same roof. The youngest of the three wasn't to move in with my sister until her oldest sister graduates from high school in the spring. But, my sister prayed hard about everything and the time had come that the sisters needed to be together. So, over the weekend we had an addition to the family. Oh, she's been apart since the day my sister took the oldest two into her home while the youngest lived with someone else in our church. But, it's nice having them all together. And, it's nice claiming I have three nieces!

I don't tell her (because she would tell me I'm being dramatic), but my sister is really a hero to me. I don't think I could never have done or be strong enough to take in three children (now ages 12, 15, & 17) and raise them by myself. She willfully put her life on hold for someone else who desperately needed help. She has definitely taken to these girls like a momma wolf does her young. I suggest no one cross her if they know what's good for them. ha ha ha No, seriously...she is very protective and won't let anyone harm these girls ever again.

Love my sister and commend her for the unselfish sacrifices she has been willing to make. Family Rocks!!!

Until next time . . .

It's my 2nd Anniversary

I just realized that 2 years ago today I began my career with Evalulogix. Wow, 2 years already! I simply can't believe it. It is amazing how time flies, especially when you're having fun. It's funny, even though it's been 2 years people still have no clue what I do. I guess in a way I like that because I'm somewhat of a private person and don't always like people knowing my business. Not that what I do is a secret, it's just not my center of conversation.

For a quick rundown.....Evalulogix is the company and ScoreandReport is the product. We offer a reporting tool for members of the school psychology and special education industry for schools and individuals. It's a tool which helps them put their assessment information together in a professional manner for students' IEP reports. What I do is a wide range of things: data processing of the assessment info, training, customer service, bid proposals and invoicing, social media networking (yes this includes Twitter). I simply love it. I feel that I'm involved in something that helps people...helping people is a great feeling.

I can honestly say most days of my job are fun. This has been the first job ever in my life that I have never dreaded coming to work. Believe me I have been in some situations I dreaded too. But this is different. For the first time I am doing something that I love and enjoy; every aspect of it. Don't get me wrong, not every day is great because business will be business, but I never dread the tasks at hand.

So, here's to 2 great years...and many more to come!

Until next time . . .
That's me...duh!! It was so bright that day, I remember being squinty eyed. This was my first work trip a few weeks after I started. I went to San Francisco, CA and met up with one of my bosses for training. First time to fly somewhere all by myself, not knowing a sole, and not have someone I know meeting me at the airport. My dad had to take me to the departing airport...he was terrified for his baby girl! But, I admit I was a tad nervous and excited all in one.

Happy Fall

Hi All! I didn't get a chance to post on the first day of Fall; Tuesday-September 22, 2009.

I love Fall. I love the smell to the air, the crispness in the air, the sound of geese as they head south, and the changing colors. We have had such unusual and rainy weather this year things are sure to give us a beautiful show as the colors change. I can already see a pinch of color to the trees and weeds. Some of my favorites are the dogwoods and sassafras as they turn red! That mixed with the yellow hue of the hickory tree is simply beautiful.

I gave my teen class at church an object lesson and fall challenge for the changing season. You see, most people are visual so we have to see something to believe it. Teenagers are no different. So, to help the kids see that God exists I challenged them to take a fall journal of the changing season and note the differences of each day (or however often they write). The main challenge was to get them to spend at least 30 minutes with God in prayer and thought. Hopefully they are doing this. I am also doing the challenge. How else can I expect them to do it if I'm not willing to give at least 30 minutes of my time as well. Actually, if one thinks about it our entire day is God's, all 24 hours of it, because He gave us the day. It's what we do with it that matters. One can choose to either waste it away on worldly nonsense or give it to God. I choose to give it to God because this is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.

I hope to start taking some pictures to document the changing season. I simply love watching this season change into winter. You can just see everything going to sleep for their winter break.

Spend time with God today!

Until next time . . .

Interesting Day-Saturday was

What is normally a quiet, peaceful creek became a mad rushing river in a matter of moments.

This field bottom looked like a lake. This is the area where the creek broke it's banks and came out over the highway for about 4 hours.

What you see here is normally a hay field.

The creek runs alongside the tree line to the right of this picture.

Watching and waiting as the water recedes off the highway.

What you see here (picture above) is where the creek broke over it's banks and is coming back out into the hayfield. Several round bales of hay were seen floating down the river, too.

You can see here where the water pooled and created a whole under the highway. It took about 30 minutes or so for the water to completely recede off the highway from this point. It went down fast.

Ah, the water is down and I'm on my way home. Just a few moments prior to this picture this area was a rushing river!

Saturday, September 19th was a rather interesting day. First off, it was unusual because I went to Mountain Home, AR. I hardly ever go to Mtn. Home on a weekend, since I'm there Mon-Fri, unless something is planned. But, this particular day I had to since I was to attend my BeautiU training to become a BeautiControl Independent Consultant. I passed by the way. I am now ready to go forth with it. Spa anyone?

Well, this really wasn't the interesting part to my day; although very fun. Let me back up a bit. While at lunch this day it was raining buckets! By the time I was headed home the rain had stopped.

Ok, this brings me to the interesting part. I knew there were chances of rain for Saturday, but didn't expect what was received in some areas. The further north I drove the more I noticed washed out gravel on the highway and could see where ditches had been running full of water. As I was approaching the Lick Creek Fire Department, on J Hwy (201 in AR) I could see there was a first responder stopping traffic. All the traffic in front of me was turning around and coming back toward me. I didn't really know what was going on until . . . The first responder asked the car ahead of me if they were headed to Gainesville and they told him yes. He simply and kindly replied, "No one is getting through because there is water over the road." I was thinking "WHAT?!" Now it is my turn. I told him to not even bother telling me because I heard him tell the car in front of me. I told him I was going to Dora and if Gainesville bound folks couldn't go through I knew I couldn't. He said I could turn around and find a different way or wait for about an hour or so for the water to recede. Well, I had never seen or heard of the water being over the highway at the Lick Creek bridge so I opted to wait it out. What else did I have to do besides clean house?

I really didn't know what to expect to see, as I have never in my life heard or seen water over the road here. I came around the corner to what looked like a lake of water. What is normally a little creek that just has a trickle was now a rushing, roaring river! It was absolutely amazing to see; especially watching the water recede. In the matter of about an hour and 45 minutes the water went back down off the highway to allow cars to pass.

It was about 3:40 pm when I arrived at the bridge. The water had been up since about 1:pm ish. And, it had gone down quite a bit when I arrived. At one point it was a bit over the 3 foot water marker located on the highway.

Until next time . . .

This is becomming a habit

As I sit here and type I am about to fall over asleep. I feel like a zombie who is trying to hold on to their head. I've mentioned in several posts lately that we have cows calving on the farm. There are little 'dots' as I call them everywhere in the pasture by my house; dots are the baby calves. I call them dots because when they are snuggling tight to the ground they look just like a little 'dot' from a distance. I have this thing with my dad. One or both of us never fail to say, "Look at all those little dots!"

Back to the story...Dad keeps an extra close eye on the cows just in case they need help having their babies. Usually they don't, but sometimes we have to get involved with the birthing process. This extra close watch requires many visits to the field where the cows are; and at weird times in the day/night. Dad will check the cows first thing in the mornings-anytime between 6am-8am. He checks them again in the afternoons. Then again in the evenings. Then again anytime between 9pm-10pm. This is when I go. Then, if there is one he thinks might have a baby by morning he'll be back out there anytime between 2am-4am. Sometimes I go during these times too if I'm asleep in my recliner.

We've been watching this one particular cow, #91, for several weeks now. She has been showing signs that she is fixing to calve; bag filling with milk, dilation, etc. We just knew she would have this calf 2 weeks ago. So dad has been regularly checking her everyday at the above times. Needless to say he needs some sleep. He just knew yesterday would be the day because she was off by herself away from the other cows and not feeling good. You can normally tell a cow is going into labor or not feeling good because they won't be chewing their cud-cattle have 4 stomachs and regurgitate their food and chew on it ALL THE TIME! Anyway...after we left Hootin an Hollerin we came home to check #91-around 8pm. We could definitely tell she'd have a calf by morning. Again at 11:30 pm we checked her again; still no calf. So dad says to me, "I guess you know what I'm going to be doing in an hour or so?" I responded with, "Yep, checking on #91." About 1am this morning I woke up to hearing dad coming up the road on the four wheeler. Had no idea what time it was because I had fallen asleep; in my recliner of course. Out the door I go because I just knew she'd have a baby. Get in the field and go to where she'd been standing all evening. Guess what? NO CALF. This was a sure sign that momma needed help. We were both like, "CRAP!"

Here we go again, having to get the cow down the alley and into the corral. We really didn't have much trouble. Accept the occaisional chase of the dog, Tucker. We would loose the cow in the shadow of the four wheeler lights and she'd be coming right at us going after Tucker. But we finally got her headed in the right direction and she never looked back; right into the corral she went.

Dad thought about going to get mom, but he decided to check out how big the calf was first. As usual our flashlight was going dim on us. We got the cow in the runway of the corral and she was really patient. Wouldn't you be if you needed help? We didn't end up going and getting mom this time. I took my usual place of holding the tail back and helping to stretch the back end of the cow; I always make sure to wash the hands very well! Just as the calf was being pulled out the light went dead. Dad kept pulling and I kept tugging on the tail; hard to do when their slick with yucky stuff. Out the big lad came and hit the ground with a thud. We didn't really know if this one was dead or alive because dad felt no life when he was putting the chains around it's ankles. We think we he hit the ground the calf was jolted. I would be. I drug him under the runway fence so we could get him going; sticking hay up his nose to make him sneeze and get the gunk out of the nose and mouth so he can breathe. Sometimes you have to hit their side too.

All looked good, little lad-well a big lad-looked as though he'd be just fine. So, we let momma out of the runway so she could be introduced to her baby. She went to licking and mooing at her new baby. I just love watching that because even though a cow is not saying anything you can almost understand her moos to the baby. When the baby tries to get up her moo changes. It almost sounds like, "Set down young man until I'm finished." It's really a sensational sight all should get to experience once in their life. I just happen to be blessed with seeing it regularly since I live on a farm.

Once again I needed a blackberry so I could record to be able to post and tweet. One day I'll have one. There'll be many more calves born on the Collins Farm and I'm sure the occaisional calf that needs a tug to get into the world. So, don't be surprised to one day see my blog with a calf birthing video.

I hope you all enjoy my farm ramblings. I find that there are so many who don't understand it so I like to talk about it. Like I mentioned earlier; this is definitely something that everyone across the globe needs to experience.

So to wrap up today's long post, sorry about that-lot's going on and gotta make you feel like you're there. These late night calf pullings are becoming a habit. I walked in my house at 2:09 am today after another exciting farm moment. I sure wish these momma who need help would rearrange their birthing schedule! ha ha But, then that wouldn't be nature.

Until next time . . .

Peacefulness...the Gulf

This is a brief video I took while in Gulf Shores, AL at the end of May. Turn your speakers up and pause my blog music to enjoy the sweet bliss of the ocean. Ah!!

What bliss. The ocean is so calming. I could set and listen/watch it for hours.

Enjoy!

It's Raining..It's Pouring

(I took this picture up in the Rockies in CO, but that's kinda what it looks like here, too)

...the old man is snoring...bumbed his head on a water bed and won't wake up till the morning! I used to sing that song all the time with my dad when I was little. Every time I say, "It's raining." I can't help but mutter the entire song in my head! Great memory.

Anyhow...as you all well know...it is RAINING! We have received much rain in the last few days. A nice, slow, soothing, calming rain; perfect for relaxing. I've even been working out in the yard in this rain. I'm soaking wet when finished, but the rain feels so good! I'll have peenemonia! ha ha

I don't recall this much rain throughout a year in a long time. The fields never really got brown this year due to the rain. But I'm not complaining a bit. Unless it just turns off cold we should be in store for a lovely fall with wonderful color. With all the spring and summer rain, and now the fall, we should have a wonderful canvas. Can't wait!

Happy Fall.

Until next time . . .

9/11, 2001: A Day in Remembrance

I remember exactly where I was the day when the first tower was hit; living in Mountain Home, AR waiting on a co-worker to pick me up as my car was in the shop. I had a few minutes so spare so I decided to wash some dishes. The TV wasn't on so I didn't know yet what was happening. But, as I was going about my day, washing dishes, peoples lives were ending and being changed forever. Just after my co-worker picked me up she got a phone call about the first tower being hit so we flipped on the radio. As soon as we walked into the office we turned on the TV and already the tube was flooded. Just as we were watching the footage of the first tower I witnessed the second tower being hit. It was all so strange; like watching a shootem up blowem up movie.

I will never forget that day. That was a history changing day in my generation. I'm amazed at some of the young people who were babies or toddlers at that time. They don't understand what went on; therefore, don't understand the price that was paid that dreadful day and the fragility of our freedoms and securities. My niece just told me she saw it as an excuse to be out of class during the school remembrance assembly. I guess this is just like people of my generation don't understand the Depression or WWI and WWII.

Anyway, I'm thinking today of the lives and families changed forever during the events of 9/11. I'm remembering the lives lost as they plummeted to the ground from the high floors of the towers, the plane hitting the Pentagon, and the one going down in a field in Pennsylvania; headed for our Nation's Capitol. I'm remembering the rescuers who lost their lives while trying to save another. I'm remembering the heroes of that day. I'm remembering how our country seemed to come together and one heard more spiritual things on tv; although only briefly. I'm remembering! Side note: it seems as though our country has went downhill in the generosity, people helping others and their neighbors; man looking out for fellow man rather than self; and Christians stepping up to the plates of evil categories since that time. I remember thinking, "Ok, this is going to get people on the right track spiritually." Sadly, that time was only being led with adrenaline rather than persistence.

I pray that our country comes together once again. Afterall, as we well learned September 11th, 2001, America is not invincible. We need to knock down our barriers of being proud and cocky and be a country of service, humanity, and fellowship rather than being out for #1 and holding our hand out.

May God richly bless all those reading this today. I pray for all the families, friends, and loved ones who's lives were changed on 9/11; seems like yesterday.

Until next time . . .

Pictures I've Promised...Life on the Farm

Sunset on the Collins Farm
Sunset and Mommas on the Collins Farm

Well, here they are....the baby calf pictures I've promised; with a bonus-the First Johnny Baby. Most people don't know that that is...but a Johnny Baby is a calf from our Hereford Bull, Johnny. We have been waiting for these babies to hit the ground and the first one arrived yesterday. You see, when you breed a Hereford bull with a black Angus you normally get a black calf that has a white face w/black spots...so cute and make beautiful cows; not to mention they bring top dollar at the sale barn. So here are the pictures....ENJOY!

Meet Tank (sorry for the blur)

Meet Star and her momma Molly...this is my cow and calf. I'll be keeping Star for a cow.

Meet Rhoney...she's unique-her momma is blue in color

Meet Haas...he's the big lad we pulled in the wee hours of Labor Day.

Introducing the 1st Johnny Baby on the Collins Farm...she's a heifer so she'll be a keeper!!

The second Johnny baby arrived last night about 11:30 pm...no pictures as the calf had just made it's debut into the world and it was dark outside.

The Birth of Haas!!

...this post may contain details too graphic for the weak stomach....contains information regarding calves being born....

All I have to say is, "If I were completely up to date with the technology era I would have a blackberry and instant access to the internet via phone. Then you all would have had some fabulous pictures from the very wee hours of Monday morning." When I say wee, I mean very wee. This all started Sunday night about 11:30 pm and ended the next morning at 2:00 am.

Right now is calving season for our fall calving cattle; meaning they are bred so they will have babies in the fall...right now. My dad watches those fat ladies like a hawk. Usually if he's checking cattle and I'm around he'll stop and get me because I love seeing those baby calves. Plus, I love watching them be born. So every chance I get to see that happen is great!!!

Well, we've been keeping our eye on them pretty close lately; just in case they need a little extra help bringing that baby into the world. And we had some excitement during the wee hours of this such occasion. Sunday night (like I said, around 11:30 pm) dad stopped by on the 4-wheeler to pick me up and away we went. When we got to the pasture and saw the gray cow we've been watching for several days we could see she was sick and trying to calve. So, we sat there...and sat there...and sat there...finally the water bag was out and a foot...so we sat there....and sat there.....and sat there...she'd get up and down, up and down, but we continued to sit there. Nothing happened. After about an hour dad got to thinking she was having trouble and needed some help. So away we went getting gates closed and others opened so we could drive her to the barn. When I say 'drive' I don't mean drive in a trailer...I mean herd her to the barn as in walking. She was a little testy about getting in the other field that leads to the barn. But, wouldn't you be if you had a 100-pound calf that wanted out, but couldn't get there?! After a few attempts we got her in the other field and off to the barn we went. She was no trouble at all and went right in the corral; the corral by the way is about 1/2 mile from the gate where we brought her out of the original field she was in.

Ok, she's in the corral. She wants help!!! She didn't fuss at all. Went right in the corral pen and waited on us patiently to get that baby out! Dad went to get mom for assistance. You see in the dark you've got to have that extra person to hold the light; that would be mom in this instance. Dad got to do the dirty work, but I'm the tail holder! Wew wee. I also am the one to pull back the skin of the cow off the calf's nose and try and spread it out a bit more to get the calf while dad is pulling it. He has a small chain that is looped around each front foot and then he pulls.

As he was pulling we could see why she needed help...he was a haas. After a few minutes of pulling the haas just hung there while being suspended in air; part of him being held by dad and the chains the other still in his mama....that is the point where hip-lock can be a problem. But, luckily he didn't hip lock and he hit the ground with a thud! As soon as he hit the ground he was named, "Haas!" What a thooster he is. Big gray bull calf! Mama and baby are doing quite lovely.

I said as we was being pulled I wish I'd had a fancy phone because I would be tweeting the process on twitter. Finally something of interest and importance to tweet about and no technology to do it. But, the phone would have gotten nasty anyway because my hands, well lets just say they needed a good scrubbing!!!!

What a nice Labor Day morning that was.

Until next time . . .

Fogs in August: Tally comes to 12!

Well ladies and gentlemen; I don't think any men read my blog, but oh well. Today is the first day of September...yeah!!! Fall is just around the corner. If you ask me, fall is already here according to our current weather. I'm sure we'll have another hot snap before the official season change; maybe, maybe not.

So, for the entire month of August I have been counting and documenting the fogs. Just to recap it's meaning. According to folklore and the Farmer's Almanac the number of fogs for the month of August is a prediction of the number of snows we will receive in the winter season. According to my monitoring and calculations we had 12 fogs in August. I recall only a few of the fogs being heavy, dense ones. But I don't know if this has anything to do with the severity of snowfall for winter. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Who knows if this is even accurate? At least it was fun counting the fogs. It will be fun as well to count the snowfalls to see how accurate the prediction is. Remember folks, we are in an area where Northern Arkansas can receive a certain amount of snow compared to Southern Missouri. There may have been more or less fogs in Mtn. Home than at my home in Dora. So to clarify, these 12 fogs were counted from Dora. Who knows if that makes a difference or not. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Until next time . . .

Happy September!!! It's the beginning of soup season!!

Just when you thought you'd heard it all.....

I have seen and heard many sad things in my life. Loosing a loved one is very hard to grasp. But, I believe being told that someone very close to you tried to end their own life is the hardest thing so far I have ever had to deal with; especially since it involves a child. I'm not going into any detail here. All that is important is the fragility of life. And, when someone tries to willingly take care of it disturbs me. This is a new area to me and something I don't want to ever face again. Hopefully the immediate family feels the same way and has had their eyes opened to what the effects of their actions has caused.

I wish people would wake up and understand the importance of living a Godly life. A life of surety, hope, and service. One that doesn't promise tomorrow, but promises a wonderful eternity. People need to wake up to the urgency to know Christ because we don't know when our number will be called. People need to stop living a life of self service, but living to serve others and stop being so selfish. Children are not punching bags or telephones to give all one's problems. THEY ARE CHILDREN; LET THEM BE!!!!! I could go on and on, but this is enough as one can probably read my anger.

Today is a sad day, but also a new day. Hopefully the help that is needed will be found. God is not finished with this child yet. This whole ordeal has brought me closer to the value of life and how we spend our time. One more reason for me to vow to live my life for God and God alone; nothing else matters.

Thanks for letting me share this. Please pray for this situation.

Until next time . . .

Final Fog in August, #12

I was asked this morning by my friend and fellow blogger how many fogs did we have in August. I quickly answered, "11." Well, after thinking about it, that is not at all correct. You see Friday night I didn't have internet available, but we did have fog. So, that takes the total to 12. Tonight is the last opportunity for fog before the end of the month so we'll see what happens.

As of today, August 31st, 2009 we have had 12 Fogs in August!

Until next time . . .

#11 & Revive to Stay Alive!

Yep, that's it ladies and gentlemen...Fog #11 for August. I really didn't think there would be fog this morning since we got a little rain last night. But, low and behold there was fog this morning; although light.

I am so excited about this weekend. We have been planning for a few months for the first Revive to Stay Alive! Teen Retreat 2009. For the first time around we have a good number of teens and adults planning on attending; 32 teens (7th-12th grade) and about 20 adults have registered. We have a wonderful guest speaker and his wife (youth pastors Greg and Tina Mason from Doniphan, MO) along with an awesome band, Pennyless from Mtn. Grove, MO.

So my fellow bloggers, be in prayer this weekend for all lives who are potentially going to be changed at this teen retreat. We live in a time where people think they are too busy for God and a relationship with Him. Folks, the time to know the Lord and live for Him is now. We can't wait for tomorrow because God only promises today. I don't know who holds tomorrow, but I know who holds my hand.

Until next time . . .

Little Miss Blue Girl

This is a special double post day....I must report and pictures will follow for sure. You know I mentioned in an earlier post that our fall cows are calving. Well, we have a blue rhone cow, yes she is blue-ish. I told day earlier in the month, "I sure wish the blue cow would have a blue heifer so we can keep her for a cow." Well, I got home last night around 10:30 pm and dad was just coming back on the four wheeler from checking the cows. **Note-he watches those things like a hawk during calving season to make sure they don't need help having their babies. It think they get checked at least 3 times day. Anyway. He drives up and says to me, "Sis, what was your wish?" Of course I immediately thought he was talking about my charlois cow that is more than likely bred to the herford bull, Johnny-that would produce a cream colored with white face calf (I hope she has a heifer so I can keep it). He says, "No, what was your wish?" Of course I couldn't remember. Then he said, "Didn't you wish for something blue?" Oh my goodness ya'll I was so excited!!! I said, "let's go look at it!" It was 10:30 at night. But, my good ole daddy took me to see. He told me to be quiet because he knew how I'd be when I saw the calf; I squeel like a little girl at Christmas. He drove up to Old Blue Lady and there SHE was; a perfect, beautiful blue heifer. I instantly loved her and told him I must purchase her from him. Well, I'll probably have to duke it out with mom, but money is already on the table and I'm going to win this one; I hope. I hope to get a picture of Little Miss Blue Girl in a few days.

Until next time . . .

#'s 9 and 10

I forgot to post yesterday, but we again had fog. So, by my tallies that is 9 fogs so far for the month of August. This was a big, heavy fog too. Don't know if that says anything for the snow, but I did notice this was a dense fog compared to most we have had for the month.

We had fog #10 this morning. Actually, I knew there was fog even before the sun came up. You see, since the weather has been so nice I have had my windows open. Well, let me just tell you right here...I hear everything at night. My senses are so intune at night time I think I could hear a needle hit a haystack! Anyway, I knew it was foggy at about 4:45 this am because I was outside. It was actually kind of neat. I walked out on my porch and was in the fog; it was like I was in a cloud because the fog was down at the ground level and thick. I bet you're wondering what in the world I was doing out at that time; there was no meteor shower-couldn't have seen it anyway due to the fog. Let me back up a minute. I was abruptly awaken to a sound of something crashing. Of course I had to lay there in my bed for a bit to see if I heard anything again. When I finally got the nerve I got up and turned all the lights on. This was sure to scare off anything that shouldn't be there. I put my glasses on so I could see and out the door I went. Of course I couldn't see anything because 1-it was dark outside, and 2-it was foggy. Since the porch light only goes so far I got the remote to my car and flipped the headlights on; nothing. Then, out of the shadows and the looming fog there IT was.......a big fat stinking armadillo! Absolutely hate those things. Many questions were answered in the wee hours of the morning today...I found out what made the crashing noise, discovered what was digging in my yard and flower beds, and discovered what was killing my flowers! I wish I had a pistol.

So, we are up to #10 fog in August according to my records. I am thinking I may have missed one last week because it looked hazy in the morning like there had been a fog, but I didnt' count it. I think that was a fog day and the bulk of it had lifted prior to me seeing it. I also think this was a day I reported patchy fog. Who knows. Again, this is not a definite calculation. It is merely a prediction and quite fun to count and report.

Have a wonderful day my fellow blogger buddies!!

Until next time . . .

#8 complete with Coyotes!

This morning was with out a doubt, definitely a fog day! As the sun was coming up, yes I was up as the sun was coming up, I could see the fog quietly resting on the ground. I can tell the season and location of the sun is changing because of how it comes in my bedroom windows. The windows are at the head of my bed and the sun peaks through the blinds as it's coming up over the horizon. Which, since the sun is now rising directly in the path of my windows, is causing me to wake up earlier....good thing, fall mornings are breath taking! Anyway, it was a beautiful, foggy morning. The sunrise had an orangy-pinkish hue and was calm and relaxing. I just love fall-like mornings!

Since the weather has been lovely I have been keeping all the windows open; definitely has it's advantages. However, this morning I was abruptly awaken by a disadvantage-the shrilling, ear piercing sound of coyotes! They were so loud and several of them that they woke me up. They were actually pretty close to the house this morning; right next to the front yard. It sounded as though they were right out my window, but they weren't quite that close. I had the howls in surround sound. I could hear them in the distance through my bathroom windows, echoing from the living room windows, and loud and clear from my bedroom windows. They were so active they got my mom and dad's dogs barking! It was toe tingling to say the least.

Well, August is almost over. It has been quite an interesting month as far as the weather is concerned. Not our typical weather for this time of year. Overall this has been a great summer considering June was our hottest month. It's almost like we are ahead in the seasons...can't wait to see what September has in store.

Until next time . . .

Patchy #7

Well, fog #7 but it was patchy...only foggy over the lakes and valley areas. But a fog is a fog is a fog.

Had a super weekend. The weather was absolutely gorgeous! Got so busy cleaning the house and messing around outside that I totally blew my time getting ready to go to my dear friend Sara's spa party. I have already apologized and received forgiveness from my friend. Time just got away from me. Sorry again Sara!

Opened my windows up Friday night when I got home from work and haven't closed them yet. I love love love this weather. Weird for August because it feels like fall and September weather. I have windows at the head of my bed and have woken up the last two mornings to the birds singing...so pleasant. Yesterday, though, I woke up to woodpeckers, but it wasn't too bad! ha ha Still though, it is so peaceful with the windows open. The place gets aired out and you hear all of nature. The horses are behind my house so I hear them all the time, plus at night I get to hear the coyotes singing...eary sound because they are so close to the house. But, still pleasant.

Some of our mama cows are calving right now. I love going with dad to check on the cows because more than likely there'll be a new baby calf. We checked them twice yesterday; shortly after church and then again in the evening. The first time we went there was one new baby; pretty fresh too! Then, in the evening we were counting the cows and babies to make sure they were all there an no mama out of pocket (aka off having a calf) and low and behold there was another new baby; also pretty fresh. She was learning how to get moo juice (aka milk) for the first time. So cute!!!

Our cattle are split into two heards; spring babies and fall babies. These are the best times of the year: spring + new baby calves; fall + new baby calves. Absolutely love farm life. Wish I had a cowboy to share it with. Hope to have pictures of baby calves posted soon! There are some real cuties.

Well, that's all for now. Nothing more exciting going on other than being a Monday.

Until next time . . .

Patchy #6

Well, we had fog this morning, but it was patchy. So we'll call this one a patchy #6 fog in August. I wonder if this means there'll be a patchy snow? Who knows.

Until next time . . .

Today

This is a big day for many across the world. Thousands of children and teenagers everywhere are headed back to school. Some for the very first time, some who are somewhere in the middle, others in their last year before entering the workforce, and others in their last year before college. I was imagining this morning those little ones stepping onto a school bus or entering the halls of their school for the first time. I also thought of those somewhere in the middle and those stepping into the halls or bus for the first time on their last year of high school. There are a few people really close to my heart that fit all those descriptions. I pray for their safety this school year. I pray that they dig deep into their studies and make good grades. I also pray for their parents that they have patience and guidance for their children.

What wonderful memories I have from my school days. The only thing I really remember about Kindergarten is crying on the first day and in my school picture as well as taking paint trays out of people's desks with Chancey Hambelton during nap time. We would take them out of the ones closest to us and put them all in someone else's desk. Yes, we got in trouble! I also remember playing 'London Bridge' near the time out stumps on the playground. These were also the stumps where we dusted the chalk board erasers. I remember fondly being in the classroom by the office one summer day and Jeremy Wages busting a stink bomb in his desk; it smelled of rotten eggs. The stinch filled the entire school. I remember there being a breeze that day and the windows of the room were already opened. The wind took that stinch a sailing. It was awful!!! I remember lipsyncing to 'You Lost that Lovin' Feeling' by the Righteous Brothers with my best friends Aaron Anstine and Beth Volanski while in our Freshman year. We won that talent show and won tickets to see Confederate Railroad at the West Plains Civic Center in 1994. Guess who opened for them? Kenny Chesney!!! My sister got his autograph there before he was famous. I wonder where that is??? I remember walking across that old stage and accepting my diploma; such a fond and proud memory. There were many wonderful as well as sad memories from my school days. Now, today, there are kidos everywhere walking down the halls of their schools making their own memories. Here's to a great 2009-2010 school year.

Also, on this day back in 1972 my wonderful parents said, "I Do!" Happy 37th Wedding Anniversary Mom and Dad! I am still amazed by my parents sometimes. They are the best and most important thing in my life (after God of course) and I couldn't have asked for better. It's kind of ironic I think...my parents were married at the Ball this day in 72...and 37 years later my dad is going to enter that same church house as a pallbearer for his aunt. Peace be with the family today.

So, this is a very important day for many. School begins, celebrations of love, and celebrations of life as one is being put to rest. Hope your August 19th is grand!

Until next time . . .

Fog #5

As of this morning we are at fog #5. I actually think there have been a couple more, but not during normal viewing hours. You see, when I was up in the wee hours of the morning last week viewing the meteor shower there was a fog that rolled in, but I didn't count it. Who is up at 3 am to believe me?! Anyway. This could be where the variations come from in the winter when there are say 6 snows and only 5 counted fogs. Who knows...but it's a fun way to predict.

Not much else going on really. Today is the last day of freedom for those who attend Dora School. They, along with many other children across the country start the 09-10 school year tomorrow. Some have already began and others won't go back until after Labor Day. But, tomorrow seems to be the average start date for many.

Welcome back School!!!!

Until next time . . .

Perseids Take 2

I couldn't resist the chance of viewing more of the Perseids Meteor Shower....so I stayed up again! Needless to say this is a glasses day instead of contacts. Anyway. I didn't stay outside as much this time; I was smarter. I took a nap in my recliner until about 1:15 am and then outside I went. Yes, I know the peak of the shower is between 2 and 4 am, but I do have to function at work the next day people. ha ha

The nights, well mornings is more like it, have been wonderful. One couldn't ask for better weather. I didn't stay out long this morning, unfortunately. I sure wanted to, but man. The display was a bit more active between 1 and 2 am today than they were yesterday. I will close with this. I have seen several meteor showers; parts of them-one day I will stay up all night and watch the whole thing until the sun comes up. But, this morning I saw the best, most spectacular, and beautiful meteor to date. It was HUGE!!! The fireball on the end was bright white, but the tail (train) WOW..magnificent! It went soaring across the sky like white fire, but the tail was first green and pinkish...then the white fireball lit up again and the tail went to white and purple. The tail stayed visible in the it's arch form for about a minute. It was so awesome. As soon as I saw it, even though for an instant, I could do nothing but gasp and praise God for His mighty works!

When I finally went back to bed I had instant replays of all the meteors as soon as I closed my eyes; that's all I could see. So amazing.

Until next time . . .

Perseids & Jupiter

Stars & Planets have always been my thing....I just can't get enough of their beauty and remain in awe of God's wonderful works and splendor! God is good all the time; All the time God is good!

The planet Jupiter has been largely visible for several weeks now, but I haven't gotten around to get the telescope out until last night; thanks to my mother. **note** My telescope has been at my mom and dad's how for a while (almost 2 years) to keep it safe while I moved (2 years ago) and I have never picked it up until this week. Just thought I'd share.

So, last night I made myself stay up really late because if I sat down or got comfortable I knew I'd fall; asleep that is. I visited with my parents until 11 pm. I guess if I'm talking I'm not sleeping and neither is anyone else at 11 pm for that matter. Off to the house I went. Got the telescope all set up on the front porch. **note** That's why me and my dad built that front porch so I could have a place to put my telescope on a great evening like last night.

Got the tele all set up and WOW!!...There it was...Jupiter in all it's splendor. Of course it looked no bigger than a the end of a q-tip, but I could see it along with it's moon. It was beautiful. All I could do was start singing "God is so good, God is so good, God is so good, He's so good to me." Plus, as I was viewing Jupiter up close and personal for the first time a lovely meteor from the Perseids meteor shower streaked thru the view of my tele....Now that was amazing.

After my lengthly star gazing I focused my attention on the area of the constellation Casseopeia; the entire area of the overhead sky really. August 12th was the day of the peak time of the Perseid Meteor Shower. The peak is in the hours of midnight to dawn with the best time supposedly around 4 am. I was outside from midnight until about 2 am and say quite a few lovely meteors. Some had large heads with flowing, twinkling tails. Others were short and sweet. One even started on one side of the sky and sailed north until it finally faded. Last night was a perfect night for star gazing too. The weather was absolutely perfect.

Although I didn't make it until 4 am; I did have to get up and go to work-which I'm paying for right now because I feel like I was hit by a Mack and my head feels like it's barely attached to my body. But, the view of God's majesty was absolutely worth it. Maybe next year I'll stay up until 4 am!

It's been awhile since I took a bit of time and just looked at the sky. I could just set there and look and never get bored. I am reminded every time I view the stars, picking out some of the constellations and planets along with the Milky Way Galaxy, of God's great works. He is so awesome. When I view the stars I often wonder how people could not believe in a greater power than ourselves, one who made everything...God. It did not happen in one boom in time. Life and world was made with great craftsmanship, care, skill & love. Just how can people not belive in the one true God; creator of the Universe!!!

Until next time . . .

Now at 4

Woke up this morning to fog in August #4. Actually the fog began to roll in last night about dusk. It was so pretty. Dad and I were out on the four wheeler till about 10 pm, first looking for then doctoring a cow. It was such a nice evening. You could see the fog rolling in up and down the hollars.....so pretty. We are blessed to live in such a beautiful area.

Until next time . . .

Still at 3

Well, after the first full work week of August we have had 3 fogs for the month. There was patchy fog this morning on my way to work, but I don't know how to count that one. All I know is there have been 3 big fogs so far for the month.

Monday, August 3rd

3 Fogs

Well, I decided to devote my blogs this month to track the Fogs in August. So, here's a recap...I failed to write down the date of the first fog, but fog 2 was Wednesday, August 5th; fog 3 was this morning-Thursday, August 6th. It could very well be that there is an extra fog in there because it was foggy last night too. I am going to have to check with my sources and see if two fogs in one day counts as two fogs. More on this later.

Until next time . . .

Fogs in August

Anyone like winter weather? Snow?

This is one of those folklores my grandpa and mom have always told me about. He passed those folklores to my mom and now she has passed them to me.

For as long as I can remember my mom has written 'FOG' on the calender every August for each day there is fog. I remember as a child asking what that meant and this is what she said, "For every fog in August that predicts the number of snows for the winter." Of course as a child I was like, 'Right on!' because snow usually meant no school. As an adult and member of the work force it is a different story; although I think snow is beautiful!

As tradition goes I have now taken on the habit of penciling 'FOG' on my calendar. For inquiring minds who want to know, we are at 2 fogs so far for the month and it's only the 5th. (I don't think I missed one in there. I'll have to double check mom's calendar) Wonder what the remainder of the month has in store?

Remember....count those fogs in August! Oh, and here's a good read from the Farmer's Almanac about fogs in August. Clink on the link below.

Until next time . . .

Welcome August!

It is so hard to believe it is already August. It seems like it was the beginning of Spring just last month and everything was just starting to green up, the trees were budding, etc . Now we are 3/4 into the year and beginning the road to Fall. School will be starting in a few weeks; many will start school for the first time and others will be entering their final year of high school. Two people come to mind here. My good friend (other sister) Cristina's sweet little Dora will start Kindergarten this year while my eldest niece, Shanea, will be in her Senior year. As one is starting their school days the other is ending one chapter in order to begin another. I'm sure many of my blogs will include the doings of my family. So this part is To Be Continued...

So, it is August. With August, at least in these parts of the country, come those dreaded hot summer days; one more opportunity for summer to punch us in the face with the heat. However, the last few weeks have been unusually pleasant. The mornings and evenings have just been beautiful! Everything is so green and lush; not to mention my yard that will be terrible to mow! It's hard to believe this time last year everything was brown, typical for August, but we were feeding hay to the cattle because there was no rain and no grass to speak of!!! Everyday is a blessing, but I'm thankful how blessed we (my parents) have been in the area of the cattle farm. Speaking of lush, my 4 0'clocks planted by my front porch are in full bloom. They have been for several weeks, but they just keep getting pretty. They are a pleasant burst of color around the house. Some days I just have to lean over the porch and admire God's beauty. It's so hard to believe that plants begin as tiny seeds!

With August, which I've touched on a little, also comes SCHOOL....school starts in three weeks. Just when one gets their child back to normal after being around certain kids for a year it is time to throw them back in the fire again. Oh, I so hope this is a better school year for my sister's sake. I don't understand the thrill of being in trouble all the time and not doing my homework. There is just no fun in that at all. Keeping the fingers crossed for a good year!

Also with August comes the Dog Days of Summer; aka snakes are blind as they are shedding their skins. All I can say about this is I hate snakes. The only good snake is a dead one.

This time last year we began the Biggest Loser at work. I was so excited and energized after losing 42 pounds from August to November. Sad to say I gained much of it back over the course of the year. So, starting today I am getting back on track again. I feel so pumped! Already had my grits this morning followed by a 20 oz bottle of water. After seeing how I looked after just 42 pounds and feeling so great I know now what I can achieve. Even though I hate it tremendously that I gained back, it was a good thing in a way. One, I know I can do it. And, two, I didn't know just how bad and tired I felt before. Now I know and I don't want to live this way anymore! So, I'm going to spend the second half of my year of 30 and into my 31st year fighting the fight to getting healthy.

I don't know of anything else that comes with the month of August. Again, it is hard to believe August is already here. Where does the time go?

Until next time . . .

Ah, the age of 15

First of all...HAPPY FRIDAY!!

Secondly, HAPPY 15th Birthday to my darling niece, Dee.

Ah, to be 15 again, but have the wisdom and life experiences of a 30 year old. Nah, I don't think I'd want to go back even if I could. No sense living in the past when today the day and the future is in front of me.

For Dee's birthday she gets to take three friends to Branson and stay the night; along with her sister, my sister, and myself of course. We are going to the IMAX to see Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs in 3-D. Then a bit of back-to-school shopping tomorrow. Two trips in one!! Anyway, should be a great weekend.

Short and sweet today and no nothings wrong with me; just not a lot to say. Have a great weekend.

Until next time . . .

Cherish the Day

I am saddened today by the news of my 23 year old neighbor loosing his long battle with colon cancer; Christopher Roberts. The family and friends are in my thoughts and prayers. I have known Chris and the family my entire life; after all they are just across the hollar and their property joins ours. His long battle and the fact that he was so young has been a constant thought in my mind; to be frank it bothers me a little. I know one should never question God because He always has a reason. But, it is hard to grasp why people die so young; when their life as we know it has barely begun. It's hard knowing he was not that much younger than myself and he didn't choose this disease. Simply put, I (we) take too much for granted sometimes. Speaking for myself, I know I do. The last several weeks, after news of his worsening condition, I have really been thinking about life and the legacy one leaves behind and applying it to my own life; or at least trying to. All this has brought some fine tuning to some of my scenses: seeing & hearing. I have always looked at God's creation as a beautiful thing, but now more than ever. It's like the green of the grass is greener, the blue sky is bluer, the sweet frangrance of flowers is sweeter, and the song bird's song is cripser. What this all boils down to is that each day God gives us a blessing, often multiple blessings, and I want to make sure and be thankful for it whatever IT may be. Waking up in the morning is a blessing in itself, but do I always remember to thank God? I'm trying to do better. Remember to cherish each day God brings and live in the present rather than the past. God gives us today, but he has never promised tomorrow...gotta be ready when He calls us home.

On a side note and it kinda ties in to what I'm trying to say...my nieces recently got back from church camp, on fire for the Lord, and they brought home some interesting topics discussed in the services. The one that sticks out the most was the illustration given regarding tomb stones. On a tomb stone it lists the year born, followed by a dash (-), and the year of passing. The years listed are significant in their self, but what about the dash and all the stuff in between? The question brought from this is what does one want their dash (-) to be? What legacy, teaching, knowledge, memory does one want to leave? That certainly got me to thinking. What do I want to be remembered by? What do I want to achieve in life? What is important to me? Of course the only true way for me to answer these questions is to let God in them and have Him lead me in His direction. I only want for me what God wants; not be self-absorbing and living for myself or what the world wants. My life belongs to God and God alone. It is His and He is free to do whatever with it that HE chooses, not me...that is so hard for me sometimes, but this is how I choose to live my (His) life; a life of service to Him. Many people think I have put them on a back burner and am only concerned with myself, but to be truthful I have submitted my entire being to the Lord and I will follow where He leads. Now...please don't read this and think I'm trying to make myself into a glorified Christian because I certainly am not. I just felt that I should share what God has placed on my heart and what He is doing in my life. He opens my eyes to many things and right now it is to cherish the day and thanking Him for the many blessings in life.

God be with the Roberts Family and give them peace and comfort during this storm of life.

Until next time . . .

Lunch with Friends

It truly is a blessing to be able to spend time with friends. Yesterday I was able to have lunch with my friends Sara and Melissa. It was nice to just sit and relax, talk, and enjoy a good meal at Colton's. Thanks girls for a great time!

Friendship is something I think many of us take for granted. I know I do sometimes. We get so busy in our day-to-day life...routines, that we forget sometimes about those who are important to us. I am so bad at this. Granted I often think about those in my life who mean a good deal to me and those I have befriended over the years. But, do I pick up the phone and say, "Hey!"? Nope. I wonder why that is? I guess maybe because I don't want to bother or interrupt them. I don't know, but I hope to get better in this area. Because, these people are friends for a reason and I certainly don't want to lose them even if our paths don't cross very often anymore.

We are all going different directions in this thing called life. We need to get back into the habit of crossing paths with those who have made an impact on our life..I know I do.

Until next time . . .

Rain drops and thunder

Rain drops are falling on my head...not literally at the moment, but it has been raining off and on all week and that song just stays in my head. We have been receiving some much needed rain over the last few days. With it has been much thunder; the kind of thunder that rumbles clear down to your toes. I love rain and thunder days like this because they are so peaceful. Perfect for curling up on the couch with my nose in a book...but life goes on and work calls. Anyway...not a whole lot going on these days. I hope all my fellow bloggers are doing well and enjoying their summer.

Wonderful words

These are the words I've been waiting to hear: Italy and Spain 2011 is in the works! The group I met and traveled with in Europe back in March is planning for 2011 and they want me to try and get a group to go with them. We discussed the idea of traveling together again and it may just happen. It's funny; we both wanted to go at the same time (March 2011-to give time to save $$) and we both had the same idea of destination (Italy w/the possibility of Spain). Well, they have found the trip...I have looked at the itinerary and it's AWESOME!!! Now, I just need to get to work on planning for my group. 2011 may sound like a long way off, but planning now allows the ability to pay for it sensibly rather than in a rush. I'm so excited!!! Keeping my fingers crossed that all works for Italy & Spain 2011!!!

Until next time . . .

It's been awhile....

.....since I blogged!! I discovered today that it has been almost a month since my last post; arg! I guess there just hasn't been alot to talk about. Summer is off and running like usual. Although, this one has been fairly quiet for the most part...knock on wood. We are gearing up for VBS to be held at the end of the month. We are doing Rome: Paul and the Underground Church. It is exciting. I'm looking forward to it. Had a good 4th of July. We floated on Satuday and BBQed with some family. We always have a good time. Mom, myself, Renee, Shanea, Dee, and our friends Cristina and Dora went to the fireworks at Tecumseh (Thunder over Tecumseh) on the 5th. They were really good. Saw some old friends while I was there. One exciting part of that evening was the fireworks that was a dud. One of us said after it didn't go off, "well, it'll have to come down somewhere"..Rule: What goes up must come down! We are sitting there watching the show and all of a sudden Dee graps my arm and screams about the time you hear this BIG thud on the ground. About 4 feet beside here there lies a cococut/cannon ball like object...it was the dud! Interesting moment it was. Thank goodness it didn't decide to go off!

Anyway, not much else going on or to talk about. Have a great day.

Until next time . . .

Ok...the much anticipated pictures

Pictures from vacation with my sis, nieces (Shanea & Dee), and aunt and cousin (Susie & Patrick) to Gulf Shores, Alabama; May 27th - 30th, 2009.

We all had a ball.

Just to recap: This was my aunt, cousin, and nieces first time to ever see the ocean. My sister had been planning this with myself and our aunt for a couple of months. The girls didn't know a think about it until we got to Memphis. We stopped at Graceland as a diversion and make them think that's where we were going. But, this is where we let them in on the secret. It was a great surprise and fabulous time. It was so awesome and refreshing. I'm attaching the riddle I wrote that told them where we were going. Enjoy.

A VACATION RIDDLE FOR SHANEA & DEE

The day will start early to begin our journey.
Destination 'south' is all that comes from our mouth.
Where are we going? Where will we stay?
It's all been a secret, a surprise; this vacation get-away.
We've scrapped; we've saved; we've all planned with care.
A few more hours and we will soon be there.
We will start in Dora, Missouri on Hwy CC,
Then on to town and get on Hwy 63.
We will drive through Hoxie, Arkansas and make a stop in Tennessee.
A photo op at the gates of Graceland for Elvis fan Shanea to see.
So where to now? What is our destination end?
Let’s get back on the interstate and begin driving again.
Carter and Cash have a famous song.
I'll hum a few bars so Dee and Patrick can sing along.
"Yeah, go to Jackson!" is all we have to say,
Cause we're headed south on I-55 this vacation day.
Continue on from Jackson and through Hattiesburg, too.
We're driving through the state of Mississippi; clear straight through.
On down to Mobile; in a completely different state.
We will clear five states all on the same date.
We're almost there, just hold on tight.
Cause this surprise, we hope, will give you the time of your life.
It's extra special, you see, where you're fixing to be.
All to add good things to your memory.
There'll be fun in the sun, and good times for all.
There'll be no need for malls because we'll be having a ball.
In the sun, in the sand, You, Nay, Lindsay, Patrick and Susie,
We will make a castle or two.
Wake up early to check out the land,
To find a bunch of sea shells out in the sand.
Feel the waves on your toes, and the salt in your face.
For a few sweet days we will slow down our pace.
Destination Alabama. Gulf Shores to be exact.
Our Beachfront condo awaits, and that's a fact.
We've all kept it a secret for the ultimate surprise.
Because in a few short hours,
The Gulf of Mexico will be right before your eyes!
